    RISC OS 5.18 released 7356 Reads announcements

    RISC OS Open have announced the release of their latest stable release of RISC OS, version 5.18 to be exact. This shiny new update features no less than 340 improvements since the last official release and has been vetted by Castle Technology for the Iyonix PC and RComp for their ARMini. The new ROM image should be able to upgrade all versions of RISC OS from version 5.07 or later and is provided with a flash programming tool (which also takes a backup of the previous version just incase you wish to go back).

    NetSurf 2.8 released 6041 Reads announcements
    The NetSurf developers have made available the newest stable version of RISC OS' premier web browser, NetSurf. 2.8 sees a number of major improvements and fixes over previous versions, and as always, it's free to download - NetSurf is also available for other platforms, BeOS/Haiku, Linux, AmigaOS and Atari are amongst the supported systems. In order to run on a RISC OS system, RISC OS 4.02, 6 or 5.07 is required as a minimum, as well as a number of modules which can be downloaded freely online.

    R-Comp Interactive have released an Operating System upgrade (to RISC OS 5) to ARMini users, this new update contains a bundle of new features and polishes up the overall ARMini experience.


    MathMagical Software have announced that Iconizer II will be available at the MUG Midlands Shows for purchase, a new copy is available for £35 or £10 for an upgrade from a previous version of the software.


    The RISC OS Midsummer Mug Show takes place on Saturday 9th July 11:00am - 16:00pm at St John's Church Hall, 205 Warwick Road, Kenilworth CV8 1HY.

    Entrance fee is just £3 and free for children.

    The entrance fee also entitles you to entry in to the prize draw where you can win either a copy of !1st by Serious Statistical Software or !rotor! by MUG's very own John Rickman.

    Paul Vigay 8355 Reads announcements

    We have just learnt that Paul Vigay, perhaps RISC OS's greatest supporter, has been found dead. Missing overnight (February 19th/20th), Paul's body was discovered in the early morning of Friday 20th February on the sea-front near his home.

    Next Saturday is the RISC OS South East Show, having become a regular slot in the RISC OS callendar, the show is at the usual venue of Guildford College and we can look forward to a packed event. The opening times are 18th October 10am - 4pm. Despite the recent news about Castle / Iyonix Ltd withdrawing from the market, there is still much to be positive about. This is a chance for RISC OS users, past and present, to re-unite with one common goal - the progression of RISC OS and its applications and accessories.


    A few days ago, Virtual Acorn announced an update to their Virtual Risc PC for Macs. This update to the network plugin, resolves some reported issues with networking using Omniclient and LanMan98.


    This week, APDL have announced that they now have the ability to offer online ordering for many of their products.

    Professor Steve Furber, one of the pricipal designers of the ARM 32-bit RISC microprocessor, as used in native RISC OS kit, will be visiting the RISC OS North West User Group on Wednesday 21st May 2008 and giving a talk about that development.


    A couple of days ago, Chris Hughes of the Wakefield RISCOS Computer Club and Wakefield Show Coordingator, sent out the latest details for this year's forthcoming show (which takes place in April).
