Those keen historians amongs us will already be aware that it is approaching 10 years since Acorn Computers Ltd's. announcement which became known as Black Thursday, back in September 1998. This led to the formation of RISCOS Ltd. [4] in January 1999 and they have now entered their 10th year of trading.

A lot has happened over the past 9+ years since Acorn themselves left the scene, some good, some bad. Overall, I think RISCOS Ltd. [5] should be recognised for their efforts and in particular, some recognition for those unsung heros working away behind the scenes who've helped to move the RISC OS [6] operating system forward over the time passed since Acorn's demise.

In the past couple of years, RISCOS Ltd. has turned around from previous problems and has released new operating system versions for subscribers, new documentation for programmers, both printed (the newly produced PRM - "The Window Manager") and electronic (on the web and supplied with RISC OS SIX [7]), as well as stepping in to ensure that RISC OS shows are able to continue where previously they may have not been possible. Momentum seems to be picking up once again for our favourite platform, so lets hope we see RISCOS Ltd. celebrating their 10th aniversary next January and others beyond for some time to come.
