announcements [3]
The much anticipated 277 Issue of Qercus [4] Magazine has been released and is now being sent out to subscribers.

We at myriscos have received the following details from John Cartmell:

Issue 277 of Qercus has been much delayed and we apologise for the long gap in production of the magazine. Reasons for the break in publication have been production and personal problems (illness). We will be making use of our experience of the former in future articles about publishing from RISC OS [5]. A new organisation here will ensure that future personal problems won't leave readers waiting for their copies of Qercus.
Issue 277 is the first of a new style of Qercus [6] as we are now able to offer full colour allowing greater flexibility in design and layout. We will be making greater use of the new options available to us in future issues. As before Qercus is bulging with articles:

all continue - as does David Cowell's Creative Graphics series - although this time he's looking at vector graphics for a change.

The short series on Basic BASIC ends but we have also found room for the first of a new series on programming - this time using the language Lua. Sadly having two programming series in one issue has squeezed out the Q Page and Star Info - but they will be back next time.

We have still managed to find room for:

and there is a look at the AppBasic series from a user's point of view.

The Electronic Quill looks at RISC OS [7] Shows, in advance of the four shows this autumn and we include a feature on those shows and user groups.

Continuing our series on EasiWriter we describe changes in the application over the years before starting in-depth tutorials on all the latest additions to the program.

Our new production arrangement means that Qercus can include more recent news and we have been able to include news as well as background on the latest announcements from RISC OS Open.

The next issue due out at the end of November will feature the continuing series:

plus a cover feature on transforming photographs into vector graphics and a brand new series taking a distinctive view of RISC OS games.

And there is our own take on the Dan Brown phenomenon from Henk Huinen - but this one is not a (da Vinci) Code.

News content will include breaking news and background on whatever happens up to and beyond the South East Show.

Now that we're back in production there is too much to fit into a single announcement so keep your eyes open for (much) more on offers and products over the coming weeks and months.

Qercus can be purchased through UK newsagents or direct from us but in future we will be keeping fewer back issue copies than before. A subscription costs less and you can save over 13% with a UK subscription.

Subscription (pounds sterling including postage)

Many thanks to those who have been patient and to those who have assisted us in helping us get Qercus back in production.

Update - 14th October
John has now emailed with the following updated information:

Earlier today we were able to release some details of the contents of issues 277 & 278 of Qercus. We can now confirm that most issues of the magazine are now in the post and the first readers will receive their copies this weekend.

As promised we made no pre-announcement but waited until copies of the magazine were on their way to the Post Office.

Visitors to the South East Show will be able to see extracts from issue 278 (the final pages will await news from the show and later) and be able to satisfy themselves that future issues will arrive as promised.

Although we have been able to use some of the additional flexibility of our new layout in issue 277, future issues will be produced with that in mind to produce an even better magazine.

Copies of Qercus 277 will be available at the Newcastle Show this coming Thursday and (possibly) at the Glasgow Show on Wednesday. There will be special offers available to those attending all three shows and the Midland Show next month.
