I think that the front page is too cluttered. I'd prefer getting rid of the following boxes:

UK News, European News (I can get these from my favourite news site)
Slashdot (I can get this from Slashdot)
Categories
Current News (it's on the page anyway)
Information

It would be better with a column on only one side of the main news.

Also, the Search for Applications box is wider than all the others so widens the whole right column.

All the pages have a blank white space at the top which could be removed.

>>I think that the front page is too cluttered. I'd prefer getting rid of the following boxes:
>>
>>UK News, European News (I can get these from my favourite news site)
>>Slashdot (I can get this from Slashdot)

They've been amalgamated into a choose your news block!

>>Categories
>>Current News (it's on the page anyway)

Yes, but if you click an article to read it, it allows you to move to the next article without having to return to the home page - perhaps you don't use the site in this manner however others do.

>>Information

In a later version (month / 6 weeks), you'll be able to decide which side blocks you want or don't want to see.

>>It would be better with a column on only one side of the main news.

No it wouldn't - hey there's a difference of opinion.

>>Also, the Search for Applications box is wider than all the others so widens the whole right column.

Not now it's not!

>>All the pages have a blank white space at the top which could be removed.

It could.

I too think the front page too cluttered. Also, the
banners cause an annoying "connecting to website,
waiting for reply" delay. At least MyRiscos could
mitigate this by caching the banners. This is
part of the reason why I find myself not using
MyRiscos very much. It tries to be too clever by
stuffing too much on. I will stick to simpler
sites.
Also, may I enquire whether MyRiscos has validated its
php output with http://validator.w3.org/ ? For
a site claiming to cater for "fringe" users this
is absolutely crucial.

Aren't opinions wonderful? All adds to the spice of life.

The banners are meant to be displayed - caching them is up to your ISP IMO.

There is a new version of the site software due in the next week or so that allows you to decide which side blocks of those that have been made available you want to see or not - this will give more flexibility in terms of user preferences.

We occasionally check for this, not everyday as there's other things we have to do that get in the way!

There's some recent changes to the layout on the front page - is this better for you? [addsig]
