This forum thread is to allow follow up from article that introduced the topic. feedback from the forum will have input to a revised article at a later date.

Post your experiences on Online Banking and RISC OS - what works, what doesn't, which browsers, which Banks and the relevant urls etc.

Over time this will help users new to the scene to get up and running quickly.

    Lloyds TSB Online Banking
With Oregano I have had no problems using this service.
This includes paying regular debits such as credit cards and setting up new payments.

    Egg Credit Card Services.
By using Browse, with the SSL module hacked to work with 128 bit, I can access my statements.

Using WebsterXL 1.98n I have not yet been able to access my Barlcays bank account, even though WXL has 128bit encryption. What happens is that after typing in all of my details, ie account number, passcode, secret name etc. A screen appears saying the deatils you entered are incorrect. They are not. I have not tryed all of the different faking settings, so maybe it would work with them set differentely.

My guess is that it's using some form of maths based JavaScript being used to validate or munge (technical term ) the details - something which is quite limited in WXL due to basic and 32 bit integer handling - it basically doesn't!

Hopefully, R-Comp will take the feedback from this article/forum and try to resolve if possible in the next releases (which they have a good track record of doing!).

Nationwide Online Banking fails to function, in my experience, for both Fresco 2.13 (JS) and Oregano 1.10. However, as RISC OS users are a cunning lot, many have taken advantage of the fact that a web portal for Nationwide WebTV users has been set up. This WORKS! In fact, if you don't fake Fresco, you're taken directly there. In any case, you can go directly to:

    https://olb2.nationet.com/ittv/NBSITTV1.asp

assuming, of course, that Fresco has the HTTPS module installed.

On a PC I even use the above (rather than their main pages) as it has a much cleaner interface.

    HNY 1 and all.

    How cool is that!

I bet that will help out quite a few folk!

    Also, druck posted elsewhere that:

    Quote:

The following work fine with Oregano 1.10
    HSBC, MBNA (credit card), Cahoot

Fresco is required for servicing the Egg savings account, but is not always reliable.

The question is what does 'not always reliable' mean - crashes (over and above what Fresco usually does ) or some other problem?

Egg works fine with Fresco. You can view statements change payments and printout all work fine.
Webster keeps bringing up a save box

Oregano used to work but know claims your details are wrong

smile, owned by the Co-operative Bank, works fine with Oregano. You may have to click submit on the login pages to get in though, pressing return in one of the textboxes doesn't appear to work. Once you're in, everything seems to work, except maybe viewing very old statements.

Further to Harmsy's post, dgs has sent in some more details for Nationwide:

    Quote:

    I've got 3 links that I use....

https://olb2.nationet.com/ittv/NBSITTV1.asp as you say is the TV Internet access which is OK.

However, if you want speedy access then you might like to use the Mobile Banking (PDA) site....
https://olb2.nationet.com/pda/NBSPDA2.asp this has minimal graphics and is just as secure as the TV site. You can transfer money, make a payment and view recent transactions.

Both of these work very well with Oregano. The Mobile Banking site is desiged for PDAs so it looks a little odd in a full size browser window. I drag the browser window to approx 3" wide so you can then view the pages more or less as they are intended to be displayed.

The 'standard' PC Banking site will not work with Oregano v1.10...
https://olb2.nationet.com/signon/index.asp However, I can get Fresco v2.13 to work with it, of a fashion. I use Paul Vigay's ANT Utils to set faking to Mozilla/5.01, Netscape, MacOS.

I know that Nationwide have had contact with Castle Technology about Oregano (and possibly other Acorn related matters). I also heard that Nationwide had been loaned a RPC for testing purposes although that may be just a rumour.

    Hope this has been useful.

If we get a farily complete picture of a large number of banks (we couldn't hope to cover all banks world wide). Someone might be able to approach them and suggest that they might like to consider being more open if their competitors are etc.

It is feasable to cover the number of banks in the UK, I don't know of too many banks in other countries, but if you use them, let us know.

Please keep posting any details of your experiences with the On-Line banks. This is one way we might be able to make a difference for the greater good. Remember it is not just the RISC OS desktop computers, there are all the embeded systems using the web, such as NTL TV Internet (Liberate) and Bush Internet TV (NC OS / RISC OS). Then we have palmtops - EPOC Connect etc.

Even The Icon Bar is collecting info for us

    Posts from their comments section:

    Quote:

I use LloydsTSB's online banking. It even works just fine in Lynx, as well as Fresco and Oregano. It doesn't use Java, and the small amounts of JavaScript it does use are *not* required to actually do any banking. I still don't understand why these banks seem to think they need to use Java etc. for what is actually a fairly simple web application by the standards of webmail etc.
    Rob.

    And:

    Quote:

Oregano works perfectly with no faking for Barclays. They too don't mess around with java or javascript. They know it cuts off a large portion of executive toys if they do that.
    Daniel Barron

    Thanks for that info.

    Hi!

The <a href="https://meine.db24.de">homebanking website</a> of the German bank <a href="http://www.db24.de">Deutsche Bank 24</a> works perfectly well with Oregano 1.10 and Fresco 2.13 (JS). It's known to be one of the most compatible sites around.

I use Oregano for accessing Smile, Cahoot, and Intelligent Finance.
I have no trouble with transactions in any of them but with
IF I cannot press the Oregano Back button without being "kicked out"
and having to log on again. Also with Intelligent Finance it will
not let me change Standing Orders.
I used to use Selftrade for share dealing. After they upgraded their site
I can no longer get past the password screen.
