Now that the press, Bristol and Manchester groups have seen RISC OS 4+ and it's about to be released it's about time we started saying what we thought about it.
As soon as I know people have started using 4+ we'll set up a time to have an on-line chat but in the meantime we're open to questions here.

Someone's just asked me (off the forum - why?) about the future of RO.
On Wednesday (at MAUG) we were told that ROL saw Select as a 2+ year scheme that they expected to be overtaken by new hardware.
RiscStation, their developers were in force at MAUG, want a machine independant version of RISC OS and ROL are moving in that direction.
RiscStation want it 2 years ago and ROL can't say when they will have whittled the kernel down enough to make a transfer possible but they're still talking about RON as a possibility.

Something that I missed - so maybe you did too - is the subscription price of Select for current users of RISC OS 4.0x.
The 'headline' price is £105 but if you'll accept delivery from the web-site (ie no CD) then the price falls to £85.
It's on RISCOS Ltd's price list from May 2001 so there's no excuse for having missed it.
    Sorry!

What do you miss out on if you don't go for the CDs?

Does the web site contain "Stable" CD versions for you to cut your own CD? Is the no CD option basically the same as the CD version, but saves ROL the cost of mailing and producing the disc???

AFAIK the web site will include all (or at least all that is necessary) from the CDs but will be updated more frequently. I don't understand why you might want to cut your own CD (except as a backup) as you'd load it straight onto your harddrive and install.
