Q. I'm used to Windows PCs, and the Start Menu, where are the Programs in RISC OS?

Possible answer....????
A. RISC OS installation of software is much simpler than Windows and Programs are usually just copied to the Hard Disc in the location of your choice. There are some standard applications supplied with RISC OS and there are a couple of standard places in which you can find applications too.

The Apps folder is one standard place where RISC OS applications can be found. This is the Icon towards the left of the Iconbar, which looks like a folder with pens and pencils on it. Users can add programs to the Apps folder for easy access, or can locate them anywhere on the disc and then point to them from Apps.

I have used microsoft windows and find the method of referencing
programs ponderous and confusing compared to my RiscPC
Steves answer is excellent and straight to the point.
I think I would have added that in RiscOS you have a choice of
where you will place any given program and if you wish to refernce it
in Apps This is again an optinal personal choice.

Happy New Year,
