The much anticipated 277 Issue of Qercus Magazine has been released and is now being sent out to subscribers.

We at myriscos have received the following details from John Cartmell:

Issue 277 of Qercus has been much delayed and we apologise for the long gap in production of the magazine. Reasons for the break in publication have been production and personal problems (illness). We will be making use of our experience of the former in future articles about publishing from RISC OS. A new organisation here will ensure that future personal problems won't leave readers waiting for their copies of Qercus.

Almost as though it were a Happy New Year wish to the RISC OS community, the Wakefield RISCOS Computer Club have today announced their annual computer show is again set for May this year.

This is the 10th year of the show and will hopefully be just as good if not better than those of recent years. Again the show is to be a 2 day event over the weekend of the 21st / 22nd of May.

Chris Hughes, Show Organiser sent the press release below:

Castle Technology have today sent out a press release that confirms the future of our favourite Operating System. At the conclusion of talks last evening, a new licence has been agreed between Castle Technology Ltd. and RISCOS Ltd.

At last we can all breathe a sigh of relief, now that the reported dispute between RISCOS Ltd. and Castle Technology Ltd. is officially over. Many will agree that this has not come a moment too soon.

The agreement came from a meeting held yesterday, chaired by Icon Technology's Mike Glover (Thanks Mike, We're sure that we echo many people's appreciation of your time in helping to reach this agreement). Thanks also to all the parties involved for managing to work together for the common good.
Let's hope this marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation within the RISC OS market.

Today's joint press release has been included below:

We've received a short press release from STD this afternoon stating that they are to close for seven days to allow them to minimise losses and review recent market changes.

Although this news was posted out by Castle before the statement about RISC OS legal issues, we've not had chance to post both until now, and thought that the legal one should be posted first.

Castle have announced the immediate availability of a new 1GB version of the Panther - The Panther TC.

Finnybank Ltd earlier announced that it has purchased Acorn User magazine from Tau Press and promised more details of the format of the new magazine. Finnybank now own both Acorn Publisher and Acorn User magazine and whilst it might be tempting to simply merge the two publications there are subscribers to Acorn Publisher who may not be interested in taking a general RISC OS magazine.

Acorn Publisher will consequently continue as it is at present and will be produced every two months as in the past using the same team of contributors as before. UK Subscription rates will remain unchanged but there will be a very slight increase in the Europe and World rates to help pay for the postage of the additional issue of the magazine that will be sent to all subscribers.

Finnybank Ltd and Tau Press today announced the sale of Acorn User magazine. Tau Press have been responsible for publishing Acorn User for the last five years, mainly under the editorship of Steve Turnbull. The magazine now passes into the hands of Finnybank Ltd who currently produce Acorn Publisher magazine.

Steve Turnbull from Tau Press commented
"I am very happy that John has agreed to take over the publication of Acorn User. With Tau Press moving into new areas we won't be able to devote all our energies to it and a change in publisher always generates new ideas and new viewpoints. You can be sure that I will continue to use my own RISC OS machines and I think we are all in for some interesting times."

John Cartmell, editor of Acorn Publisher magazine, confirmed that it was Finnybank's intention to continue to produce Acorn User as a monthly magazine available from newsagents or by subscription. There would be changes to the magazine but the best of the current contents would be retained and Steve Turnbull has been invited to continue to write for the new magazine. Readers can also expect to see new contributors and articles, with favourites returning from some years ago
