riscos.info went live a couple of days back and it looks to have the makings of a really good site for those in the arena who use C as their main development languages.

BAUG: Special Event! 1472 Reads announcements
On Tuesday 26th March, BAUG (prn. "borg") - the Bottisham Acorn User Group, near Cambridge - will be playing host to a VERY special presentation, by an un-named company...

Note: Unfortunately, this event was postponed at the very last minute. On usenet, it was noted that this was a provisional arrangement.

Please can those submitting ensure that if there is a change, we are told so we can update the announcement previously made?

    Thanks

The Zaurus SL-5500 1655 Reads hardware
    Not really RISC OS, but...

On ZDnet there's a bit of Info about this at LinuxWorld.

A colour screen, a 206MHz Intel StrongARM processor, a tiny pull-out keyboard, rechargeable batteries, CompactFlash and Secure Digital expansion slots, and 64MB of memory

I wonder if it would run RISC OS? Oh! Wait! That's RON isn't it!

For all those people eagerly awaiting the new Riscstation portable, it appears that there is not long to wait now. February is believed to be the time of release for a limited number of machines initially.

Riscstation have recently updated their website (after a very long period of inactivity).

Let's hope that this announcement is echoed at BETT this week and the the education market is given a chance to run RISC OS, out and about once more.

CJE Micros have managed to find a small number of PRM 5 manuals, so if you want one, you'll need to be quick

These are NOT the PRM 5a manuals (the major difference being 5a had the internet stuff in it), but it is none-the-less a good investment.

RISCOS Ltd have released more information on Select, a newer version of !Printers (1.64a - with a cryptic message saying the fully featured version is on Select - does this mean those who don't want Select have to put up with a crippled version?)and more info for programmers about Select.

With more and more info being released on Select, the list is now looking good, except for a few points - it's still a large number of bug fixes and doesn't provide any sign of where it is leading to! Without the knowledge of where we will get with Select, combined with the current feeling of developers towards ROS Ltd, it will remain to be seen if it will do much to stimulate large scale developments.

Brilliant - except for one thing, the website is hideously broken (the front page links lead to nowhere!) so it may take a while to find what you're looking for.

(This was written at 17:20 [27/8/01] - it may have changed)

In related noises, support for 3.7 is no more. No real suprise there as ROS Ltd don't have access to the sources for 3.7!

While this is good in two ways (forcing people to get up to date OS and machines, removal of legacy) it is also bad (people don't want to upgrade or rely on legacy). With companies long since left the platform for updating the legacy code, this seems self defeating....

Well, RComp have done it again.

Not content with producing the most frequently updated web browser around for 30 quid (as well as their other internet solutions software), they're now making WXL even better value for money by bundling with it plug ins for PDF, Flash and a few others - for the same price!

What makes this even better value is the fact that RComp also send out the software updates pretty frequently and for free.

Though WXL does have it's detractors, it is certainly one of the most up to date and powerful RISC OS browsers around.

    For more information, contact RComp.

Already, within 2 days of the launch, My RISC OS has moved on to its own server (I got bored hacking about!) ;-)

Some people may have to wait a little while for their ISPs DNS servers to start pointing to the new place. However if you are reading this, then you are in the new place already!
