Now that Qercus is back up and posting out issues to readers, they have offered to also provide a service to any user groups who want it, to deliver notices "free of charge" to their readers whom are local to a given user group.

Following a gap of nearly two years, Cerilica !Vantage has been updated from version 1.01 to version 1.10 closely followed by 1.10a.

This so called 'stability' release has had, and indeed still does have, a few teething troubles. In particular, users running on RISC OS Select 4.29 - 4.36 will not be able to run the current version.

So what's new in this long awaited 'upgrade'?...

I've recently been updating my background control application to include some new features and also made it a little more compliant with RISC OS style conventions.

We've just received a press release from Mike Williams on behalf of Castle Technology, announcing today, the availabilty of support for USB storage devices for the IYONIX pc.

It started as quite an innocent posting on csaa by the wizard known as Dave Ruck (the genius behind probably the most useful product ever, disknight). An unofficial mailing list was closed and a new spangly one covering all RISC OS graphics cards opened.

Innocent enough...

Next, under the "Right to Reply" banner, the graphics hardware whizz supreme, John Kortink gave a response.

All well and good...

Not. The normally tranquil and slighly glowing arena that is csah has become an inferno of claim and counter claim.

As is the case in the world against Viewfinder usenet arguments we see two well known RISC OS bods and quite a lot of users getting embroiled in a mud slinging and handbags at dawn affair.

On the basis of all usenet articles on this matter and a friendly couple of people on both the Viewfinder and RISC OS graphics card list, the weight of evidence firmly falls against JK. Of course, this could be complete bumpkin.

Note: Hmmm, I think I need some sleep!

Interesting news from the Viewfinder mailing list ...

Today, 24th July, based on the current support situation and the results of the polls running on the Windfall Engineering and Viewfinder mailing lists, the following has been decided.

Viewfinder software updates will no longer be provided for free, but on a subscription basis, and will be 'locked' to the particular machine that the Viewfinder runs in (via the machine's ID chip) and/or to the Viewfinder itself via other codes.

RComp are pleased to announce that our 100Mbit network cards began shipping today (Saturday). These new cards are the result of a partnership in the RISC OS market ensuring the production of high performance, yet cost effective hardware.

The new cards set standards in price, performance and features. Fitting into the network slot present in all RiscPC/A7000 systems (no backplanes etc. required), the performance of the card is only limited (on current machines) by the speed at which the processesor can handle network packets, when used on a 100Mbit network.

The Wakefield RISCOS Computer Club are pleased to announce that R-Comp will be our guests at our April meeting on Wednesday 3rd of April 2002.

R-Comp have a range of products to offer and will be demonstrating some of them at the meeting.

Again from the Viewfinder mailing list...

Existing Viewfinder users can now upgrade to an ATI XPert 2000 Pro AGP card.
