RComp are pleased to announce that the first release of Messenger Pro Server Edition will be at the SouthWest Show this Saturday.

Messenger Pro Server Edition is a top-of-the-line part of the Messenger Pro email software family for RISC OS. The software allows RISC OS users to share email across a network to all manner of computer platforms (RISC OS, Winodws, Linux etc.).

Why do you need Messenger Pro Server?

There are many times that you need to have email flowing through a central machine on a network, especially if you want to be able to...

As reported at The Register

During his keynote, Intel's Greg Fister boasted about McKinley's great potential to crush rival RISC systems. And he had figures to prove it.

Fister unveiled benchmarks that showed Itanic roasting what he described as "one of our leading enterprise contenders", in the form of a BBC Acorn computer.

Note: The article's author, Andrew Orlowski, whilst these days busy reporting on what he dubs Intel's Itanic Cockups (and similar news), is also, in his own words, "an Archimedes veteran". Little wonder that he's not taken in by Intel's spin.

According to the BAUG (prn. "borg") archives, the inaugural meeting happened on 23rd February 1982 in a house in Bottisham. The three founding members had had their BBC Micros on order since September 1981, and they didn't arrive until April 1982! Unless you know otherwise, this makes BAUG the oldest Acorn User Group in the world.

Just noticed an article at Slashdot about a ROX Desktop Update.

There are a fair number of comments from people who seem to like it as well.

Note: ROX Desktop is a desktop based around a filer - the RISC OS filer!

After a period of confusion Paul Middleton, managing director of RISCOS Ltd, has stated categorically that VirtualAcorn is not "a legally licensed product"

Note: While MyRISCOS may carry this story, it may not reflect the views of either MyRISCOS or the moderator of this article. There is a certain degree of confusion over VA having a licenced copy of OS 3.11 (from Pace) or having an agreement with Pace for 3.11 (this amounts to the same, but doesn't cost as much)

The Zaurus SL-5500 1413 Reads hardware
Not really RISC OS, but...

On ZDnet there's a bit of Info about this at LinuxWorld.

A colour screen, a 206MHz Intel StrongARM processor, a tiny pull-out keyboard, rechargeable batteries, CompactFlash and Secure Digital expansion slots, and 64MB of memory

I wonder if it would run RISC OS? Oh! Wait! That's RON isn't it!

The Wakefield Show will be held on Saturday and Sunday 18th and 19th of May 2002. Opening times will be 10:30-17:30 and 10:30-16:00 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Please note it in your diaries now!

This announcement has been delayed partly due to several organisers' work committments and the recent sad loss of Mike Wilson who was our publicity officer. Companies or shareware authors interested in taking space at the show should now contact the address below.
