Report: Acorn User Magazine drops CDs from its magazine.

Tuesday, September 11, 2001 - 08:18 PM, (1753 Reads)

Acorn User has decided to drop the regular issuing of its front cover CD which was due out this month (October Issue).
Seemingly we've all to download the 100's of Megabytes of programs, etc. off their web site.
Or as Acorn User calls it 'An exciting new scheme'. Exciting for whom?

The only trouble is there is no visible section
on their web site to allow readers do this and even though their magazine says it has 'already been placed on the web'.

Err where?

What are Acorn User playing at?

If they couldn't get it online in time perhaps a simple 2 minute edit of their front page to inform their readers of this might have be in order?

I too am more than a touch upset about the news but lets take it in context. I also get the Risc World CD magazine. Have I downloaded (or even looked at) large chunks of the CD? The answer is no. Much of the software, in some editions *all* of the software, is stuff I already own.
It doesn't mean downloading 100s of megabytes.

I'm also assured that the editor is also unhappy that the web-site is not up and running. I'll post here when I know it's available.

Are CDs (or web-sites*) important for magazines these days? If used properly - I think so. At the moment no RISC OS magazine does it properly.
Now if only someone (AU?) will listen to my ideas...

*or web portals?
