I'm no longer a RISC OS user nor a Select subscriber nor a Select

project contributor, but I happen to have come into the

possession of some screenshots of 6.20. Subscribers just got a disc in

the post of the latest version. It appears there's more buttons on the

Filer toolbar, a preview frame in Filer windows like Microsoft's

Explorer, and a rearranged Task Manager (which now looks confusing).

I'm thinking of using RISC OS for file management, specifically because of this firewall functionality. It seems to be equally intuitive and customizable.

RISC OS has always had a certain amount of memory protection, although it was undermined by some poor design decisions in the early days (e.g. module area and zero page not protected from user-mode access). It was also undermined by overreliance on SWIs as a mechanism for dynamic linking (because a side-effect is to switch to a privileged mode). verizon internet

Likewise, RISC OS has always had pre-emptive multitasking if you count the TaskWindow module as part of the operating system.
