    Articles: Select 5i1 Announced

    Saturday, December 20, 2008 - 03:58 PM, (5954 Reads)

RISCOS Ltd. have announced the release of the latest version of our favourite operating system, Select5 issue 1 aka. RISC OS 6.14.  RISCOS Ltd. have clearly been busy of late, with 2 press releases just prior to the recent Midlands Show and this latest release of the operating system.

Select5i1 was available at the Midlands show for subscribers to take away and the press release states that "Most subscribers should have received theirs by now."

The press release also states "As we are sure that you are itching to get your hands on the new features in time for Christmas, we have taken the step of also making the Select 5i1 CD image available as a download from the Select members' area - just in case!", given that it is Christmas time and the efficiency of postal service at this time of year can be variable.

Myriscos can confirm that users have indeed been receiving their CDs and that positive feedback has begun to flow.  The feature list of this latest version of RISC OS is quite impressive, including new 64K Screen modes, new sprite format to support the new mode, various speed improvements, new features for Paint and Draw, 2 new colour models within Colour Picker and much more - see the press release below.

    Press Release:

    RISC OS Select 5i1 Announced.

RISCOS Ltd are happy to announce that the outstanding batch of Select 5i1 CDs were shipped early this week.

Most subscribers should have received theirs by now. However, given the vagaries of the Christmas post, it is possible that you may have to wait a few more days.

All current subscribers have access to this. If your subscription is due for renewal or has already expired, now is is a great time to renew it.

    About the Select Scheme:

The RISC OS Select Scheme was established in 2001, to provide an ongoing development and testing platform for RISC OS users. It is a yearly subscription scheme, with access to developments available to subscribers via CD and Download. The improvements introduced via the Select scheme lead to the production of the RISC OS 4.39 ("Adjust") ROMs in 2004 for use with Risc PC's, A7000 and Omega computers. In late 2006, the Select scheme entered a new phase with the release of the first version of RISC OS Six.
