Apparently a new version of LanMan98 is currently under development, as noted recently by Chris Evans of CJE Micros in response to a discussion about NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices.
News that an upgrade to LanMan98 was being worked on was recently mentioned on the RISC OS Select Mailing List. No date for release is available, but apparently it is "expected to go for beta testing soon".
It is hoped that the upgrade will allow compatibility with more NAS devices than the current version allows (although it is known that several RISC OS users already use LanMan98 with the Linksys NSLU2 device). Already several posters to the mailing list have welcomed the news.
No further details are available, other than that this is likely to be a chargable upgrade. Presumably the product will be re-branded as LanMan2008 or something date neutral???
