Articles: How to get involved with myriscos

Friday, June 13, 2008 - 01:40 PM, (638 Reads)

Due to the apparent dry spell with regard to RISC OS news, this short article is here to encourage any one whom produces RISC OS products, free or commercial, or any budding reporters / writers who've got something relevant to the RISC OS community to get involved.

For a long time, myriscos has been available to anyone and everyone as a resource for news, comment and links to RISC OS resources, but for whatever reason, very few people have actually got themselves involved.

The most obvious feature of the site are the articles on the front page, but under the surface are other features which users can also contribute to.  Check out the various links down the left hand side of the site.

The site is moderated, and so it's possible for anyone to create an account and submit articles, and these will then need approval before going on to the live site.

To submit an article, is fairly easly, first login then on the left hand side of the site you'll see a Submit Article link under News.  Click this and you will be presented with the page on which you can submit the article.  Myriscos uses Javascript, but does degrade fairly well for non-javascript browsers.  Some users may find it easier to compose articles in a text editor and then drag / drop or paste them onto the text boxes in the submit window.

All articles must have a title, and topic (chosen from a predefined list).  You then have the option to split the article into a Lead-in and body.  The lead-in will appear on the front page, the body will require readers to click "read more". Within the articles you can include hyperlinks to other sites or just write plain text.

Before you can submit, you first have to click Preview to check your layout, and then you may submit it for approval.  The user interface is fairly straight forard and easy to use, so if you have something to say about products or something of interest to the RISC OS community, why not get involved and do it on myriscos.

Please note that myriscos administrators, obviously, reserve the right to edit or refuse submitted articles, just as other publications do, but this will not be done without good reason.  All reasonable articles will be considered.
