Articles: Ask what you can do for riscos.info, not what it can do for you!

Monday, March 26, 2007 - 11:00 PM, (1660 Reads)

During a recent newsgroup discussion on comp.sys.acorn.apps entitled "Future of Risc OS" (sic), Theo Markettos suggested that people would probably already have information that they could share with the community via the WIKI which lives at http://www.riscos.info/ and he posted a couple of links to the discussion.

Two of the links were:

http://www.riscos.info/index.php/Monitor_Definition_Files
http://www.riscos.info/index.php/MassFS_OtherDevs_entries

Although, like much of the newsgroup traffic these days, there are some negative tones within the discussion thread, the parts of the thread about the WIKI on riscos.info have lifted things somewhat and caused at least myself to add my little bit of help into the mix.

The riscos.info site is really easy to use, you just have to create an account on the site and then you're able to edit pages (within a minute or less) that others have put up and give your knowledge / time to further benefit all users of the site.

In WIKI terms, none of this is new, but in recent times within the RISC OS community there have been many pointless and time-wasting arguments on the newsgroups, where people's time could have been far more usefully employed doing things like adding to the WIKI at riscos.info, rather than the circular arguments which are all too familiar to frequent newsgroup visitors.

Maybe Theo's post to c.s.a.a has been able to kick start some cooperation which was long overdue. I certainly felt compelled to try and help.

I encourage anyone who's got a few minutes (half an hour at lunch time or whatever) to take a wander around riscos.info and see if there are any sections of the wiki that you can usefully add to. This has probably all been said before by others closer to riscos.info, and I'm as guilty as anyone else for not previously taking the time to see what I can do to further its usefulness, but hopefully my addition of MassFS device entries has gone some way to fix that.

Steve.
