Articles: Iyonix at RO North West User Group, Wed 15 Jan 2003

Friday, January 10, 2003 - 05:31 PM, (2041 Reads)

The next meeting of the RISC OS North West User Group (RONWUG) will be:

Jack Lillingston (Managing Director, Castle Technology Ltd)
The IYONIX pc RISC OS 5 computer

6:45pm for 7pm, Wednesday 15th January 2003

Trafford Metrovick Rugby & Cricket Club
Finnybank Road
Sale
Cheshire
M33 6LR

The launch of the 600MHz IYONIX pc, the first RISC OS 5 computer, has caused a great deal of excitement in the RISC OS community, and this is your chance to see, hear about, try and buy it.

Plans for the evening include:
- an OHP2 slide presentation from Jack about the Iyonix's features
- demonstrations of the computer's speed and software compatibility
- the popular "is the Iyonix so quiet you can't hear it?" test
- a chance to try out the Iyonix yourself
- a look inside the case (if someone remembers a screwdriver)
- questions and discussion

Jack will be bringing a video projector for the presentation (which will run on the Iyonix itself), and a 22" monitor to show off the computer's high resolution screen modes and performance. So everyone should have a great view. There may also be an opportunity to buy and take away Castle's new development pack aimed at readying your software to run on RISC OS 3, 4 and 5, and possibly even to buy and take away Iyonix computer systems on the night. (Details yet to be confirmed).

At the meeting, RONWUG will have two large TV monitors to give away. It would be preferred that one or both of them go to people who are able to bring them along to RONWUG meetings on a regular basis.

A few RONWUG members should be at the venue from around 6:30pm, and probably until as late as 11pm. Please note the slightly earlier start time (but you can arrive and leave whenever you like). Tea and coffee (and possibly biscuits) should be available at the venue, and fast food shops and an off license are nearby. As is usual with RONWUG meetings, admittance is free, and everyone is welcome.

The venue is just a few hundred yards from M60 J7, with plentiful free parking right outside, and easy ground floor access. It is on the bus route from Manchester city centre, and is also about fifteen to twenty minutes walk from Dane Road Metro station. A map can be found by following the URL at the end of this article; contact us as below if you need more details, or indeed any sort of assistance in reaching the
meeting.

Just a quick note to say that Castle will also be bringing both 128MB and 512MB versions of the Iyonix, and their C/C++ development suite on CD, for you to buy and take away on the night.

Credit cards can be accepted on the night, however you may want to phone Castle in advance (01728 723 200), as card payment confirmations over mobile phones can be very slow!
