Articles: The Omega visits bonny Scotland

Monday, August 26, 2002 - 10:10 AM, (1745 Reads)

In Scotland? Fancy looking at the latest in RISC OS technology? Read on....

A venue in Livingston has now been booked for Microdigital to demonstrate their Omega computer and to answer our questions, on Saturday, 7th September 2002. The following place may unfortunately not be ideal for everyone but we were booking at short notice, so apologies all round if this is the case (but please see the end of the message).

The venue is:

Deans Community High School
Eastwood Park
Livingston
West Lothian
EH54 8PS

Tel: 01506 497090

A better map is here

Livingston North Railway Station is close by and this can be reached from Edinburgh Waverley or Haymarket (about 10 mins walk?).

From Glasgow

Come off at Junction 3a of the M8 Turn right at the little roundabout at the end of this junction.

Travel along the road (you will see the NEC complex pass on your left). At the next roundabout (The Royston) turn right.

See ** below

From Edinburgh:

Travel along the A89 road until you pass a SHELL petrol station on your right.

You will arrive at a small roundabout. Turn left.

You will approach 'Royston' roundabout, go straight over.

See below

**

Travel downhill now until you come to another roundabout, turn left at this.

You will *very* shortly come to a T-junction (you will see a snooker center to your left across the road).

Take a left at this T-junction and travel along it. Drive for about 1.5 miles you'll see a small roundabout with a raised centre. Take a left and you will see to your left a white complex in grounds. Take the first left and you will be shortly in its free car park.

At the car park, look for a door with a few steps leading up to it and you are in the Deans High School.

More details

I intend entrance to be *free* and there are currently around 40 people who have said they're coming (bring your friends!). We're booked from 1.30-4.45, the intention being to have set up and be ready to start around 2pm until, say, 4.30pm. There are stairs leading to the room so unfortunately this may not be suitable for some disabled people (you could email Stuart for exact details as he's been there). If
this rules people out, I would be willing to do a personal demo at a later date when I get my own machine. Bring your own refreshments is you like.

A plea

We're trying to get hold of a digital projector, so that MD can plug the Omega in and display the output on a big screen. The school's are all booked out - does anyone have access to one who would be willing to bring it along?

If we have to hire one there may be a small entrance fee after all... Please email me if you can, thanks.

Thanks

Many thanks to *the* Stuart Halliday for finding the venue and a big thanks to MD for coming all the way up here just to talk to us ;-)

If you require any more info, please email me- if not.

I'll see you there.
