Operating System: Give yourself to us....

Wednesday, July 03, 2002 - 12:17 PM, (1876 Reads)

Interesting snippet on El Reg over the latest updated from M$.

Basically, you download the latest updated to their Media Player and give them administrator rights to your machine for them to install software remotely with blow all notice as to when this will happen. The giving of the admin rights has been accepted by you by downloading the software. Okay, this may sound quite useful - you don't need to worry about having the latest versions of their software, it's installed for you. Look at the other side of the coin. Would you trust your machine to a company who's idea of security is effectively to have an open door with a broken padlock on and a couple of rabid hamsters sitting on a stool? This will be a crackers dream come true. No more port scans, just go in.

I suppose it is logical for M$ to do this, afterall, everyone knows how much information Windows sends back to Microsoft...

The clause appears only in the update that you can download off of the TechNet site.
If you use WindowsUpdate that clause isn't in the agreement.
