Press Release: Acorn Publisher changes hands

Wednesday, June 19, 2002 - 02:02 PM, (1268 Reads)

Akalat Publishing wishes to announce that after publication of Vol. 8 issue 6 (August 2002) the ownership of Acorn Publisher will be transferred from Akalat Publishing to John Cartmell of Fleur Designs who will be responsible for publication of all issues from Vol. 9 issue 1 onwards (October 2002).
Mike Williams, who runs Akalat Publishing and who has produced Acorn Publisher since its successful launch in October 1994, said, "After eight years during which I believe Acorn Publisher has achieved a deserved reputation as the best looking and most readable RISC OS magazine, I have decided that I want to devote more time to other interests. I am very pleased indeed that John Cartmell has agreed to take the helm of the magazine, as I did not want to let down the many people who have supported Acorn Publisher since it started. A new owner and editor is good news for the magazine, and I know that John shares my aims of producing a professional quality magazine for the RISC OS market. Indeed, an injection of fresh ideas may well provide the catalyst to develop Acorn Publisher to meet the needs of RISC OS users over the coming years.

I hope that everyone within the RISC OS community will continue to support Acorn Publisher, and to support John in the future."

Akalat Publishing will continue to provide design and printing services to a range of clients.

John Cartmell, the new owner of Acorn Publisher, has confirmed to us that he hopes to maintain the excellence of the magazine with both current and new contributors.

He said today,
"There appears to be an impression that Acorn Publisher is only of interest to those producing magazines. That has never been the case. Acorn Publisher is an essential resource for anyone producing graphics, DTP or web pages whilst taking pride in their work.

We intend to build on the magazine's current strengths and add new resources for subscribers. Acorn Publisher is probably the best RISC OS magazine; what it does, is done with excellence, and Mike Williams is to be congratulated for his work as editor over the past 8 years. We aim to maintain the position of the magazine, extend its coverage, and add to the numbers of subscribers who find Acorn Publisher to be a tool they wouldn't be without.

Current subscribers and contributors will be pleased to note that volume 9 will continue series of articles current in volume 8 whilst introducing new articles and authors. Details of new resources for subscribers will be released over the next few months and in the meantime we welcome comments and ideas both from current subscribers and others."

I've always been impressed by Acorn Publisher, even though its contents have not always been completely relevant to me personally. I am sure that it will continue from strength to strength in the future.
