Information: RISC OS South West Show

Saturday, January 05, 2002 - 11:38 AM, (1529 Reads)

There are less than two months to the eagerly-anticipated RISC OS Southwest Show! An annual event taking place at the Webbington Hotel, Loxton.

A list of exhibitors is expected to be published on the site shortly. Perhaps this show will be the one where we get to see a working RiscStation laptop - and maybe we'll be able to buy one! Perhaps this show will be the one where we get to see a working Microdigital Omega - and maybe we'll be able to buy one! The venue is near Axbridge in North Somerset. The hotel is clearly visible from the M5 motorway, and is similarly easy to get to. Whatever the numerous RISC OS developers have up their sleeves, this is undoubtedly a show not to be missed.

It's worth pointing out that the RiscStation laptop is already working (no surprise there), but, until it's in a case, it's not really worth looking at!

As for being able to buy a laptop at the show, well yes I imagine you'll be able to try one and order one. However, I visited Roy on New Year's Eve, and it was very clear that one wouldn't just be able to walk up at the show, pay money and take one away.

Almost all of the first production run will be allocated to those who have paid deposits already, so unless you have done so, it'll take a while to get hold of a machine.

The deposit is only one hundred pounds, and this secures your laptop as part of the first production run. Details (including planned specification) can be found at the RiscStation website as linked in Andrew's article.

I'm not yet up to speed on MicroDigital's plans and predictions for the show - I'll post here with what I find out.

As for the show itself, I still have four spare seats in my car (travelling from the Ipswich area and planning to spend all day at the show), so if anyone wants to risk life and limb for a very quick journey to the show from that area, then get in touch.
